Zackery Vaughan
Julian McMahon, a versatile Australian-American actor, passed away on July 2nd, 2025, at the age of 56. Born on July 27th, 1968, he was the only son of Sir William McMahon, a former Prime Minister of Australia.
McMahon built a successful career across television and film, becoming widely recognized for his memorable roles. Early in his career, he gained attention as Ben Lucini in the popular series "Home and Away." He later starred as Detective John Grant in "Profiler" and became a fan favorite as the enigmatic Cole Turner in "Charmed."
However, McMahon achieved significant critical acclaim for his portrayal of the charismatic plastic surgeon Christian Troy in the FX drama "Nip/Tuck," earning him a nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Television Drama Series.
His film work included the role of Doctor Doom in the "Fantastic Four" movie series. More recently, he appeared as Jonah in the Marvel television series "Runaways" and led the CBS crime drama "FBI: Most Wanted" as Jess LaCroix.
In a 2018 interview with the Herald Sun, McMahon reflected on his relationship with his father, noting the generational differences in their experiences: "My Dad... was born in 1908. That's a very different time to what it was when he was raising me... He must have gone through a strange misunderstanding of how you were parented in 1908 versus how you parent in 1972; it would have been so conflicting. Also how you be a husband in that period of time would have been different."
Julian McMahon leaves behind a legacy of diverse and compelling performances across various genres. He died of cancer.Â
